Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kilogram of chicken or beef
  • 2 cups of rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of tamarind
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 3 pieces of cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 pieces of cardamom
  • 3 pieces of star anise
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper powder

Instructions:

  1. Wash the chicken or beef and cut it into small pieces.
  2. Boil the water in a pot and add in the cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom and star anise. Let it boil for 10 minutes.
  3. Add in the chicken or beef and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Take out the chicken or beef and set it aside.
  5. Add in the rice, coconut milk, tamarind, salt and sugar into the pot of boiling broth. Stir well and let it cook for 20 minutes.
  6. While waiting for the rice to cook, fry the chicken or beef with coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, chili powder and black pepper powder until it is cooked.
  7. When the rice is cooked, serve it on a plate and top it with the fried chicken or beef.
  8. Pour the broth over the rice and chicken or beef.
